What is therapy?
In the ordinary and normal course of living, we will suffer hurt and trauma. We can only truly thrive if we can cope with (and ideally overcome) the consequences of those wounds, which can include all the emotional and mental traumas like anxiety, anger, stress, compulsions and obsessions.
Therapy is about healing and becoming emotionally, mentally and physically robust and I support my clients across the broad spectrum of emotional and mental health challenges they face (www.positiveways.co.uk).
Positive Ways recognises that sometimes life is difficult and hard and that thriving requires making a realistic appraisal of the challenge, our resources and our mental focus to plan a response.
My goal is to teach you the techniques to heal and support yourself. That in turn becomes the springboard for your transformational learning, if you choose.
How do I approach it?
Without any ‘psychobabble’! I use a straightforward framework or set of organising principles called the Human Givens. It sets out clearly and simply what we all need and what resources we have to achieve fulfilling those needs.
I then use a Motivational Interviewing approach to help you evoke, focus, plan and engage your resources in getting those needs met.
Which techniques?
I may use a whole set of tools that collectively I term ‘Rational Emotive Behavioural and Cognitive Therapy’ that help (and teach) you to make sense of your world, become calm, think clearly and behave in positive ways.
This might include techniques like Counselling, Psychotherapy, and Hypnotherapy, CBT, Emotional Intelligence and NLP.
